The International Day of Charity is an international day observed annually on 5 September. It was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012. The prime purpose of the International Day of Charity is to raise awareness and provide a common platform for charity related activities all over the world for individuals, charitable, philanthropic and volunteer organizations for their own purposes on the local, national, regional and international level. The International Day of Charity attains to promote and recognize charity and its role in easing humanitarian crises and suffering in the world. The day also serves to recognize the work of charitable organizations and individuals around the globe whose philanthropic actions have contributed to the creation of more inclusive and resilient civilizations.
International Day of Charity serves to enhance and increase social responsibility amongst us all, solidarity and to increase the public’s support for charitable causes. This day is a great opportunity to raise awareness and provide a platform for charity events to take place on a global scale. The United Nations on this day invites all of the member states, various organizations and businesses and all of us citizens to celebrate the day by contributing to charity efforts in any way we can. The UN encourages charity donations, driving education and awareness-raising activities in order to push the importance of charity. Poverty exists in every country around the globe, from powerful industrial nations to developing countries. It continues to affect millions of people, regardless of their social and cultural situations and is a barrier to true prosperity and equality.
Life is hard, and for some, it’s nearly impossible. Due to unfortunate circumstances, some people are trapped in negative cycles that prevent them from affecting positive change in their own lives. As a species, human survival depends on helping others. Use International Day of Charity to reach out. The busy-ness of our daily lives can render us short-sighted, concentrating on our own problems while ignoring those of others. While it's important not to neglect yourself in favor of others (because it’s always harder to help people when nobody is helping you,) it’s also important to reach out to others and give them a hand, if you can. The International Day of Charity is the perfect time to remember that.
